I thought I would take this opportunity to reflect on what gone before and what’s coming up. With new subscribers coming on board along with increased article views, my work is now reaching a wider readership. If you have recently subscribed - welcome to the Shadowlightblog!
Last year with COP26 on the horizon, I decided to commit to a series of articles on the climate crisis. That is ongoing and towards the end of the month I’ll be publishing a case study on the South African anti-Apartheid campaign. The timing of this is interesting. As well as informing the current climate campaigning, there’s another campaign modeled on this that has reached a watershed moment, namely the BDS campaign against Israel, with Amnesty International scoring a hat trick of human rights groups declaring Israel an apartheid state. As such I’ll be revisiting a series of articles I published on Israel on a previous platform to rewrite and update towards the end of the year. There’s a reason for this. 2023 will be a very important year in the Palestinian diary. It will mark the 75th anniversary of the Nakba (catastrophe) when the state of Israel appeared on the map for the first time on 15 May 1948, coincidentally the same year the newly elected South African Government began imposing apartheid in South Africa.
It was my intention to continue with the climate crisis theme, but as we approach the two year mark since the World Health Organisation declared a pandemic on 11 March 2020, the debate over COVID related issues has intensified since my last article on the pandemic. During March, I plan to put out another piece on this issue outlining what has been going on.
I’ll also be putting out another climate related case study. The last one covered the deepwater horizon disaster. The next one will look at the egregious destruction wrought by tar sands mining in northern Alberta in Canada, aka Mordor.
This then is a sketch of how things will pan out through the year. Thanks for your support.
Update
With the Ukraine crisis now forming a centre piece and corporate media driven anti-Russian hysteria mounting, I’ve decided to do a follow up to the previous piece on Ukraine.
